Bracket Madness
I was going to post a fairly serious post tonight, but I never had the time to finish it. I did start the entry and I will finish and post it in the next day or two.
I spent my evening going to the gym, grocery shopping, and doing NCAA tourney research. I am running the office pool this year since the guy who ran it for the past several years moved away. We had 140 brackets last year, so I will be busy with that (assuming similar participation this year). I actually threw together my brackets fairly quickly since I wont win anyway.
I am participating in two other pools this year, despite my vow to spend as little money gambling on the NCAA tourney as possible. I never win any of these pools, so I am just wasting my time joining other pools. However, I can't say no to UNICorn or RoopDogg (mainly because they would keep annoying me if I said 'no' for the second year in a row). UNICorn is running a pool where you draft teams in the tournament and score points based on how far your teams go, with bonus points for lower seeded teams that do well. RoopDogg is running a 16-player 'Bracket Madness' tournament where the field is broken down into four 'regions'. RoopDogg makes up the entire selection committee, so there is definitely some shadiness in the pairings. I was seeded 3rd in the Sojka region and my first round match up is against Hawkeye. To win the first round, I need to pick more first round winners than Hawkeye. Since she is the ultimate sports gambler and deserving of a #1 seed, I am probably screwed. Oh well. I think Michigan was destined to get the shaft this year. Thanks RoopDogg.
