So sore
Day 1 of training for the triathlon. I joined Maverick for a run at Reservoir #6 in West Hartford. It's a 3.5 mile loop around a reservoir on Avon Mountain. There are a few small hills on the trail, but it was mostly a flat run. Maverick is currently training for a marathon, so she was just finishing her first lap around the reservoir when I arrived for our 10AM run. Despite my poor running skills, I held up quite well. I ran the 3.5 mile loop in about 40 minutes, and that includes a few stops along the way to walk. However, I was definitely struggling by the end and had to stop a couple times to walk in the last 1.5 miles.
The plan for the rest of the afternoon was to play a little tennis and then go for a swim at the JCC. However, by the end of the doubles tennis match, I was exhausted and terribly sore, so I bailed on the swim. I think a 3.5 mile run was enough for today anyway. I'll get a swim and a bike ride in tomorrow morning.
I committed to run the same reservoir loop again next Saturday morning. We'll see if the next trip goes a little better.
So what is my plan for the evening? Vegetate. I'll probably also play with the dogs since TheCrazyCanuck's parents, Starsky, and Hutch are leaving tomorrow morning.

Great Job today Gary! You were keeping a good pace! I am sore as well, but tired body = active mind => quality studying this afternoon => watching a movie this evening!
I knew you couldn't really dislike dogs, Gary! Now you should get one of your own...you can love him, and squeeze him, and cuddle him, and name him George! :)
maverick, which marathon are you training for? (sorry gary, I know you hate it when we befriend all of your friends) I too am sore from my run today... it was a gorgeous day to be outside.
thanks for the advice today, by the way. I'm going to take it and fess up if the topic is specifically addressed. for some reason, roommate and I can't stop laughing about it. a lot. I don't care if it was wrong, it's still kinda funny. and he'll get over it eventually, right?
Pets are fun when you can play with them but don't have to take care of them. Let's not go too far here.
I feel the same way about men, gary.
and with that, I'm heading out for the evening.
Mouse, sorry for the late response. I'm running the Berlin Marathon -- they market it as a fast one, so I'm hoping to break 4. Did you run Boston?
Oh how fun! this is way early, but good luck!
I've got at least one or two marathons before I even attempt to BQ. my best time is right above 4 (4:07 and change) at the Flying Pig. I was hoping to take 4 at Chicago last fall, but my glycogen levels had a different plan. :( I took this spring off from full mary training to focus on some speedwork. we'll see how that worked out when I run Detroit this fall!
yay for meeting new marathoners!
