Fire the Grounds Crew, Please
It was a beautiful day today. Sunny. About 80 degrees. A little humid. Yet, our softball game rained out. Yes, for the second time this year, we "rained out" on a beautiful, sunny day. Why, you ask? Well, the grounds crew was too fucking incompetent to clear out one large puddle behind third base during the day after the rain from yesterday.
Ever since my company sold the land our buildings are on and allowed developers to build a top notch golf course a couple years ago, we've received no help from our grounds crew when the fields needed to be cleaned up. Therefore, one day of heavy rain will cause games to be cancelled for two additional days. The other team actually went out the the fields with a rake during the middle of the day to try and clear it up, but they were unsuccessful. Grr...
I guess when your league fees do not cover the cost of a real grounds crew, you get what you pay for. P&C's record against mother nature has dropped to 6-5 on the season heading into the July 4th break. However, we are alone in first place with a 5-1 record against other teams!
