What am I? A Teacher?
A couple weeks ago, a former employee that has since moved back to the Midwest contacted me. She's giving up on the actuarial profession and wants to go back to school for her MBA. She asked me to write her a letter of recommendation. Me!?!
I've never written a letter of recommendation for anyone before. I never even took my own letters of recommendation seriously when I was applying at Michigan since I knew that Michigan did not pay much attention to the letters.
However, I believe that letters of recommendation are much more important for graduate programs. It feels kind of strange writing a letter for an MBA program when I've never been to business school.
This individual is someone who I enjoyed having on my staff, so I'm definitely going to write the letter. I've been doing some research this morning, so I think I know how to write a strong letter of recommendation and highlight the qualities that are important to a business school.
Why does writing a letter of recommendation make me feel old? It's not like teachers write several of these each year...
